The 1st edition took place in November 2003. We welcomed Irvin Kershner (The Empire Strikes Back) – chairman of the Jury ’04, Laios Koltai, Amos Gitai (awarded Cannes Palme d’Or ’05), Slava and Lina Chaplin (Charlie Chaplin’s family members), John Daly (Hollywood film producer) – chairman of the Jury ’05; Daniela Weber (Berlinale); Agnes Varda; Grace Guggenheim – chairwoman of the Jury ’06; Janusz Kami??ski and other guests. The Honorary Prizes David Camera in the years 2003-2010 went to Steven Spielberg, Woody Allen, Roman Polanski, Andrzej Wajda, late Gustaw Holoubek, Barbra Streisand, Paul Mazursky.
We have been the only festival in Poland whose film awarded the first prize in 2006 was three months later awarded Oscar 2007 in the same category. This is another reason why we have become a most highly regarded festival. Furthermore, our uniqueness is signified by the fact that representatives of Israel and Palestine held peace negotiations after the screening of Palestinian films during the last yearÂ?s edition of our Festival. Since 2005, an essential and regular element of the Festival programme have been film series dedicated to the Memory of John Paul II s Dialogue with Jews; among them there were films offered by TV VATICANA.
